Vu Chi Dung MD

My name is Dzung Chi Vu and I am from Hanoi, Vietnam. In the past nine years, I have worked as a Pediatrician at the National Hospital of Pediatrics, Hanoi, Vietnam (NHP) and have extensive experiences in Genetics, Metabolism and Endocrinology. After obtained MD degree from the Medical University of Hanoi, I have done several trainings on the Medical Genetics in France and Australia.
During the period of 1/1998 - 9/2006, I am the first or co-author of 37 published scientific papers and have received several awards for my research including: First prize of National Science Congress for Young Medical Researchers in Vietnam (1998), the Overseas Fellowship prize for Outstanding presentation at the Japanese Society for Inherited Metabolism Diseases conference (2004), and second prize of Vietnam-Australia Research development workshop (2004).
In October 2006, I have great opportunity to join the lab of Dr. Tomatsu as the researcher and hopefully, as a PhD candidate in 2008. During my work at NHP, I have met many Vietnamese children with affected bone system caused by genetic disorders (Mucopolysaccharidosis, Osteogenesis imperfecta, Hypophosphatemic Vitamin D-Resistant Ricket ect…) and, unfortunately, we are not able to treat them. Therefore, I would like to participate in the project of enzyme replacement therapy for Morquio disease with the hope that the project will be soon succeeded and children around the world including Vietnam will be treated with specific way.
After completing my research and study in the US, I believe I can effectively apply new knowledge and skills that I have gained in the US to my work and help provide better life for children.
In my leisure time, I enjoy dancing and listening to classical music. My most enjoyable time, however, is the time I spend with my little daughter who is the treasure of my life.
